Shy Guy is a character from the Mario game series. He appears as a common enemy in the “Super Mario Bros.” series of games, where he is usually found in groups of Shy Guys. Shy Guys first appeared in “Super Mario Bros.”, where they could be found in level 2-2, and occasionally after certain levels. They were quite rare in this game, though.
In “Super Mario Bros. 2”, Shy Guys became more frequent, and many of them had special abilities: Some would throw hammers at you, some would attempt to steal food from your reserves, some could even turn into Wigglers. However, they were still very rare in this game as well.
In “Super Mario Bros. 3”, Shy Guys became very common enemies, and would appear on almost every level (with the exception of a few levels). They were also much tougher than they were before, and came in many different colors: Green ones would simply walk towards you and attempt to walk into you, red ones would walk around and throw hammers at you, yellow ones would attempt to steal food from your reserves, blue ones would shoot fireballs at you, and pink ones could jump higher than the others.
Shy Guy Costume Style:
In the “Super Mario Bros. 3” game, Shy Guys could also be worn as costumes by Mario and Luigi. They could do this by grabbing a Red Shy Guy while he was walking around, without being noticed, and and pulling him off to the side. If they did this, they would start wearing his clothes, and the Red Shy Guy’s head would fall off with a small cloud of smoke rising from where it was ripped off. The same thing happened if you killed him with fireballs (which is actually easier than grabbing him). But after a few seconds, his head would reappear on his body.
